Sodium hexametaphosphate is an essential inorganic compound with the molecular formula (NaPO3)6. It is highly soluble in water, though it remains insoluble in organic solvents.

Water Treatment: Used as a sequestrant to remove metal ions and prevent scale formation in water systems Helps soften water and control corrosion Food Industry: Employed as a food additive (E452i) to improve texture, act as a emulsifier, stabilizer, and preservative Used in processed meats, dairy, and bakery products Industrial Cleaning and Detergents: Acts as a builder in cleaning agents to enhance cleaning efficiency and prevent redeposition of dirt Oilfield and Drilling: Used in drilling fluids to control viscosity and stabilize the borehole Acts as a dispersant and scale inhibitor in oilfield operations Pulp and Paper: Helps in sizing and cleaning processes by sequestering metal ions Ceramics and Glazing: Serves as a dispersant to improve the viscosity and stability of slip and glaze suspensions It can also be used as corrosion inhibitor, dispersant, high temperature binder, dyeing auxiliary, metal surface treatment, antirust agent, detergent additive and cement hardening accelerator.
